Summary of Study Proposal

The Bartram Trail Conference proposed to collect, compile, analyze and evaluate available information relating to the works and travels of William Bartram and to evaluate existing features which may relate to William Bartram, to determine their significance and value to the natural and cultural heritage of the United States.

The Conference proposed to prepare an overall conceptual plan relating to the works and travels of William Bartram which would set forth possible actions by all levels of government and the private sector. The plan was intended to provide information relevant to the National Scenic Trail proposal and include an inventory of those outstanding natural, scientific, historic and cultural areas and features associated with Bartram’s time. The plan was not to be restricted to possible short-term accomplishments, but was to include long-range objectives which could provide a focal point for those interested in the preservation of this facet of America’s heritage.
